The Greene County volleyball team finished its season last week after falling 3-1 to OABCIG Oct. 17 in the opening round of Class 3A regional action.
The Rams stayed close in the first two sets, falling 30-28 in the first and 26-24 in the second. In the third set, the Rams bounced back to take the win 25-20, but were unable to keep the stamina up in the fourth game, falling 25-18, ending the match.
“What a battle. I was so proud of how our girls never gave up. They kept at it and left everything on the court,” said coach Chris Heisterkamp. “Although the loss is disappointing, we can look back at a great season and find many things to celebrate.”
Kaylee Stalder led the team in kills, with 14 in the game, while Bella Schroeder had 11 and Emma Ewalt had eight. Natalie Heupel had 34 assists, Katrina Heupel had 14 digs, and Emma Ewalt, N. Heupel and Alexa Peters had eight digs each. K. Heupel also had three aces, Stalder had two.
The Rams ended their season with a 16-11 overall record, 5-2 in conference play. It was the best record in many years.
Seniors completing their Ram volleyball career were Natalie Heupel, Isabella Schroeder, Alexa Peters, Ashlynn Hinnners and Katrina Heupel.
